Mr. Roome

At the January 27, 2026, Board of Education meeting, the Rock Island-Milan Board of Education approved Mr. Anthony Roome as the next head football coach at Rock Island High School.

Mr. Roome brings extensive coaching experience, having served as a defensive coordinator at United Township High School, Moline, and Geneseo.

RIHS Athletic Director Emendorfer praised Roome’s leadership and impact, stating, "Mr. Roome offers an impressive wealth of coaching experience as a defensive coordinator at three highly regarded conference schools. Currently leading at UT, he has made transformative contributions to the football programs at both Moline and Geneseo. His dynamic leadership and inspirational mentorship have significantly shaped the lives of countless student-athletes. Under his guidance, the UT football program has undergone a remarkable transformation, and his proven success at Moline and Geneseo further underscores the profound impact he has had on his players' development and achievement."

In addition to his coaching background, Mr. Roome holds a Special Education certification and brings a strong background in differentiated instruction, scholar engagement, and individualized support.

Rock Island High School Principal Dr. Ulrich emphasizes the value of Roome’s dual role as both educator and coach, stating, “We’re excited to welcome Coach Roome to Rock Island High School—not just for his experience on the field, but because he also has the credentials to be a teacher in our building. That will give him a significant influence on the culture we’re building around football, academics, and school spirit. Having someone who can connect with students throughout the day and then lead them on Friday nights is a powerful combination, and we believe it will elevate our entire program.”

RIHS is excited to welcome Mr. Roome and looks forward to the leadership, energy, and commitment he will bring to our football program and school community.
